Something serious ...

A House of Representatives panel has voted to remove funding for National Public Radio and Public Broadcasting Stations. The cuts would slash 25% of the federal funding this year -- $100 million -- and end funding altogether within two years. A general vote is planned for Thursday.

NPR and PBS are the two most valuable resources on the airwaves today, and for far more than their excellent documentary, drama and children's programs. Studies (The PIPA studies in particular) have shown that people who get their news from NPR and PBS are far better informed factually than those who get news from other sources, particularly Fox News. I strongly suspect that these threats are being pushed by people whose agendas would be best served by a badly informed electorate.

PLEASE take a moment to sign this petition:

MoveOn wants to gather at least 400,000 signatures before Thursday. They have over 300,000. Please help spread the word.
